Hormone Yoga and Yoga Nidra - Two Practices for Energy, Balance and Deep Restoration

Hormone Yoga and Yoga Nidra offer two different yet beautifully complementary ways to support your body, energy and nervous system.

Hormone Yoga is dynamic, energizing and specifically focused on the endocrine glands. Yoga Nidra invites you into deep conscious relaxation, allowing your body and mind to soften, rest and restore.

I am a certified Hormone Yoga instructor, certified Yoga Nidra instructor and certified yoga teacher. Through these practices, I support women in working with hormonal changes and creating greater balance during midlife and beyond.

My mission is to empower you with the knowledge and practices needed to take control of your hormone health and enhance your quality of life.

What is Hormone Yoga?

Hormone Yoga Therapy was developed in 1992 by Brazilian yoga therapist Dinah Rodrigues.

Her method combines dynamic yoga postures, strong breathing techniques, bandhas, relaxation and Tibetan energy techniques. The exercises are designed to stimulate and direct energy toward the ovaries, thyroid, adrenal glands and pituitary gland, supporting the body’s natural hormone production.

Unlike a conventional yoga class, Hormone Yoga Therapy follows a specific sequence created to work with the endocrine system while also supporting physical vitality, emotional balance and the flow of energy throughout the body.

The method is particularly known for supporting women experiencing:

- Perimenopause and menopause

- Hot flashes and night sweats

- Fatigue and low energy

- Mood changes and irritability

- Low libido

- PMS and menstrual discomfort

- Irregular cycles

- Stress and sleep difficulties

- Other symptoms associated with hormonal changes

According to Dinah Rodrigues’ method, regular practice can help reactivate and balance hormone production, reduce the intensity of symptoms and restore greater vitality and well-being.

The practice also includes anti-stress exercises because ongoing stress can have a significant influence on hormonal and emotional balance.

Is Hormone Yoga Suitable for Everyone?

Hormone Yoga Therapy is powerful and is not appropriate for every woman or every health situation. Where necessary, individual exercises can be adapted to your current needs and capacity.

Hormone Yoga Therapy should not be practised in cases of:

- Pregnancy

- Hormone-dependent breast cancer or other hormone-sensitive cancers

- Recent surgery

- Glaucoma

- Thrombosis

- Lymphoma

- Advanced endometriosis

- Serious psychiatric conditions or the use of strong psychiatric medication

What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra - often translated as “yogic sleep” - is a guided relaxation practice that brings you into a state between waking and sleeping.

You lie down comfortably and follow my voice through stages that may include body awareness, conscious breathing, visualization and a personal intention.

Unlike meditation practices that require sustained concentration, Yoga Nidra invites you to rest while remaining gently aware.

The practice can support:

- Deep physical and mental relaxation

- Nervous-system regulation

- Reduced stress and inner tension

- Improved sleep

- Greater mental clarity

- Emotional balance

- A deeper connection with your body and inner world

Yoga Nidra is particularly valuable for women who feel exhausted, overwhelmed or unable to switch off.

It offers the body an opportunity to step out of constant doing and enter a deeply restorative state.

I was invited to talk about Yoga Nidra on a Podcast. You can listen to it here.

A Hormone Yoga session always ends with a short Yoga Nidra sequence. However, Yoga Nidra can be practiced on its own for 30 - 45 minutes and is enormously beneficial to allow your body to go into deep self healing mode.
